Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory launches additional OS-1^Ⓡ Apple Flavor 300 mL and 500 mL to the Oral Rehydration Solution OS-1^Ⓡ series

Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory, Inc. (Head Office: Naruto, Tokushima, Japan; President and Representative Director: Shinichi Ogasawara; "OPF") will additionally launch OS-1^® Apple Flavor (300-mL PET bottle, 500-mL PET bottle) to the Oral Rehydration Solution OS-1^® series on July 4.

OS-1 Apple Flavor is a product with the same concentrations of ingredients involved in the water and electrolyte replenishment effect as the oral rehydration solution OS-1. Apple flavoring is used to change the flavor, and as with OS-1, it has been approved by the Consumer Affairs Agency for labeling as an individually evaluated food for persons with medical conditions, categorized as a food for special dietary use. We hope that this product will be a new option for users.

At the same time as the launch of this product, a 300-mL PET bottle will also be added to the OS-1 series line-up. The 300-mL PET bottle was designed with consideration for ease of grip by adopting a thinner bottle than the conventional 280-mL bottle. The 280-mL PET bottle that has long been patronized will be discontinued.

Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory, as a leading company in IV solutions, leveraged its expertise in IV solutions to launch OS-1 in 2001 as a product based on the concept of Oral Rehydration Therapy (ORT) as proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO). In 2004, for the first time in Japan, OS-1 has been approved for labeling as an individually evaluated food for persons with medical conditions, categorized as a food for special dietary use, and has been used as a dietary therapy for mild-to-moderate dehydration. We will continue to provide products and disseminate correct knowledge about dehydration, heatstroke, and oral rehydration therapy, which is one of the options for rehydration of water and electrolytes, with the aim of eliminating accidents and emergency transportation due to dehydration and heatstroke.

Instructions for use	OS-1 should be taken according to the following guidelines and intake adjusted based on the degree of dehydration. ・Older children and adults (including elderly adults): 500-1000 mL/day ・Young children: 300-600 mL/day ・Infants: per 1 kg 30-50 mL/day OS-1 should be used as directed by a physician as a dietary therapy for dehydration. Approved labeling of OS-1 Apple Flavor

OS-1 Apple Flavor is an oral rehydration solution used in dietary therapy (oral rehydration therapy) for dehydration. This product is approved as a food for persons with medical conditions and is intended to provide water and electrolytes in order to maintain proper water and electrolyte balance in persons with mild-to-moderate dehydration. OS-1 Apple Flavor can be used to prevent worsening of and aid in recovery from dehydration caused by the following conditions. OS-1 Apple Flavor can also be used to provide or maintain water and electrolytes in the following conditions after recovery from dehydration.

• Diarrhea, vomiting, or fever associated with infectious enteritis or the common cold
• Insufficient oral intake in elderly persons
• Excessive perspiration

OS-1 Apple Flavor can also be used for heatstroke associated with dehydration.
