Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory to Build a New Factory "MP-PS" for Stable Supply of Prefilled Syringes

Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory, Inc. (Head Office: Naruto, Tokushima, Japan; President and Representative Director: Shuichi Takagi; hereinafter, Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory) will build a new factory "MP-PS" (hereinafter, the New Factory) to produce prefilled syringes (syringes already filled with injectable drug solution) (hereinafter, the Product) on the premises of its Matsushige Factory (located in Matsushige-cho, Itano, Tokushima).

A prefilled syringe is a ready-to-use kit product that contains drug solution filled in a plastic syringe injector. It requires no pharmaceutical preparation and is labeled with the drug name. It increases clinical and operational efficiency, prevents drug mix-ups, misadministration, etc. and reduces risks of foreign matter inclusion and bacterial contamination. Such prevention of medical accidents and patient safety in medical services have led to an increasing demand for this useful Product in recent years.

The Product is currently being manufactured by J. O. Pharma Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Izumo, Shimane; President and Representative Director: Yoshifumi Fujimoto; hereinafter, J. O. Pharma), a subsidiary of Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory. The New Factory will combine J. O. Pharma's manufacturing technique developed over the years with Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory's latest technology to streamline manufacturing operations using high performance equipment. The New Factory will ensure stable supply, and decentralized production will contribute to disaster risk management.
