Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory, Inc. (Head Office: Naruto, Tokushima, Japan; President and Representative Director: Shinichi Ogasawara) has opened a LINE official account for its oral rehydration solution OS-1_® series today.

This account disseminates information about dehydration and heat information useful for daily life. Specifically, in addition to alerting people for dehydration and heatstroke based on weather information at each site and providing oral rehydration therapy and OS-1 product information, the account is equipped with a function to check the estimated amount of perspiration by activity for each age group.

By offering information about dehydration and heatstroke, we hope to help people cope with mild-to-moderate dehydration through avoiding the risk and improving awareness of oral rehydration therapy. About OS-1

OS-1 is an oral rehydration solution used in dietary therapy (oral rehydration therapy) for dehydration.
This product is approved as a food for persons with medical conditions and is intended to provide water and electrolytes in order to maintain proper water and electrolyte balance in persons with mild-to-moderate dehydration.
OS-1 can be used to prevent worsening of and aid in recovery from dehydration caused by the following conditions. OS-1 can also be used to provide or maintain water and electrolytes in the following conditions after recovery from dehydration.

• Diarrhea, vomiting, or fever associated with infectious enteritis or the common cold
• Insufficient oral intake in elderly persons
• Excessive perspiration

OS-1 can also be used for heatstroke associated with dehydration.

OS-1 was launched in 2001 and was the first oral rehydration solution in Japan to be approved in 2004 as a food for persons with medical conditions (individually evaluated type) categorized as a food for special dietary use.

OS-1 has also contributed to the dissemination of the concept of "Oral Rehydration Therapy (ORT)" in Japan. Oral rehydration therapy is a treatment for dehydration in which water and electrolytes are supplemented orally (via the mouth). Recently, it has been attracting attention mainly in Europe and the United States, and guidelines have also been established. In Japan, it has been introduced for effectiveness in the Guidelines for the Management of Acute Gastroenteritis in Children 2017 (Japanese Society of Emergency Pediatrics) and Heatstroke Practice Guidelines 2015 (Japanese Association for Acute Medicine).
