Otsuka Techno launches a new disposable face shield TEC-GUARD

Otsuka Techno Corporation (Head Office: Naruto, Tokushima, Japan; President and Representative Director: Kanji Tsukii; "Otsuka Techno"), a subsidiary of Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory, Inc. (Head Office: Naruto, Tokushima, Japan; President and Representative Director: Shinichi Ogasawara), launches a disposable face shield TEC-GUARD as protection material against droplet infection on August 1.

This product is a disposable face shield that prevents droplets from contacting the face. Otsuka Techno makes use of the technology it has developed as a manufacturer of molding plastic materials involved in medical care, and manufactures the products. Because a band, a cushion, and a shield are integrated into a single unit, assembly is not necessary. Glasses can also be used together. Considering the long-time wear, we use a soft, well-ventilated, urethane foam sponge for cushions and anti-fog shields. The product is latex-free^* that takes into account allergies.

Due to the expansion of new coronavirus infections (COVID-19), measures against droplets are emphasized, and the demand for face shields as infection protection materials is increasing. With lifting of the state of emergency, economic activities have resumed, and face shields are now required not only in medical settings, but also in a variety of settings such as schools and those engaged in face-to-face work involving retail and other customer service businesses, where there is a possibility of contact with many different people.

Otsuka Techno began examining face shields in April to help eliminate the shortage of materials to protect against droplet infection and began manufacturing in June. The company is engaged in the manufacture of plastic products for pharmaceutical/healthcare products and precision plastic products as its primary business activity by leveraging its advanced molding technology for medical plastic materials for containers. As a manufacturer of molding medical-related plastics, Otsuka Techno will contribute to solving social issues by providing stable supply of face shields.
